Top 8, Covers and Write-Ups

Myspace top 8 is apparently the thing that everyone wants nowadays. Why? What's that gonna do really? Instead of messaging me about Top 8, work on making your page more informative.

Honestly when people send us messages, I usually give you a chance. I take a peek and see what you're all about. But usually it's nothin but pictures of naked girls and youtube videos of yourself doing nothing relevant to your music. The key thing is to make it easy for other people to navigate your myspace.

Hire someone to do a bio for you (need one, let me know I'll refer you to someone that can help you), if you got money, hire a PR company to help you. Don't waste your time calling magazines asking for write-ups, just go do your job (make quality music!!!).

Trust me, when you're the shit and is "the next thing to blow up" the press will come to you. We will hear your "buzz" if you really do have one. No need to buy a write up, buy an ad instead, that in itself will get your name out there. See this is why we offer a great package for independent artists (email me about it if you want to know more about it). We can't and won't sell front covers and write ups. For us, credibility is a very important thing.

And when I do call to schedule an interview with you, please don't tell me that you won't do it unless it's for the cover. That attitude will not get you very far.

As you can see above, even D Ray and Danny Dee covered the party. So if in the next issue of Ozone you see Fab release party pictures without mentioning Stash.. that means D Ray stole it from Stash party.

To me visuals is one of the most important thing in a magazine. It's the first thing that catches you when you see a magazine or when you're just flipping through one. If you see something interesting, you read it (of course the writing is also very important). Photographers should always be credited for their work.

If you think about it. Writer's write, rappers rap, thats your hustle so you should be credited for your work, music and art.

I was reading XXL yesterday, and I was very excited to see an article on Mistah FAB. The visuals is one of the best ones in the magazine I thought (especially cause the pictures are the pictures that Vivian Chen took for STASH for our first issue).

I was looking for her name in the photo credit and I couldn't find it anywhere. Then, I looked at other articles and was surprised to see that NONE of the articles have a photo credit (this was online at www.xxlmag.com by the way).

(even though Shemp did touch the picture... it's still Vivian Chen's photos.)

No Apologies

I guess my "missing posting" really caused some shit. I didn't take it down because I'm going back on my words or because I'm apologizing. It WASN'T a personal attack on their character or them being an artist, I did it because I saw something that was shady and I wanted to call it out. The Bay Area is an underdog and we have to stick together if we want to make it to a National Level.

To purposely understocked a major release will hurt everyone, because that is what every other Bay Area released will be judged upon.

I never meant to threatened a person's job, but obviously if you are concerned about what I said ... then maybe you should change what you're doing. From the response that I received from industry people, this is a common knowledge and I'm just the person that called it out.

So to end this fuckin thing, what was said was said, we all know it's the truth, I don't hate you, but shit like that fucks up the Bay Area Rap scene for everyone.

* sidenote

this was the only comment I got from the "missing post"

"wow..its obvious your sorry attempt to get buzz for your magazine and your writing has only exposed how unprofessional you are. This statement is untrue and is a written act of defamation. Your lack of knowledge on this issue is obvious, there are no suporting evidence and concrete facts. This is pathetic. Obviously, this is a personal attack. Nobody needs you to be on a cover or even cares about your pathetic attempt for attention. I really feel sorry for you. I guess the only way to bring attention to your pathetic career is to slander others with your fairytales. As a writer, you are a shame to the hiphop community. Exposing public figures and slandering their character to bring attention to yourself is disgusting and shameful. You wouldn't know the truth if it hits you in your face. What a wannabe! Why don't you take a full evaluation of yourself and figure who you are before slandering others. Its obvious you abuse your role as a writer and this only exposes your stupid pathetic ass. When you write about real, live people you expose yourself to legal liability. If I were you I would watch what I write. - Lady L"

I wonder who wrote that, hmmmmmmmm? :)
